Doris was born and lived on a farm in Bucyrus, Kansas. She was one of six daughters born to Beaulah and Ralph E. Cavaness. Since there were no sons, they needed to sell the farm and move into town. Doris was twelve when they moved to Paola, Kansas.
Doris finished school and then got married. She and her husband had four children; Elizabeth Ann, Rebecca Sue, Jerald Edward, and Robert Louis.
In 1944, they were relocated to El Cerrito California, as workers were needed at the shipyards during World War II.
Doris worked most of her life but enjoyed many activities such as church groups, a little golf, dancing, and singing. She enjoyed many trips (including a cruise) and she visited about half of the United States. She was a member of the Women's Improvement Club and the Republican Women's Club.
Doris lived in Roseville, California before moving to Albany, Oregon in 2013. She was preceded in death by two husbands, her daughter Elizabeth Ann Georgis in 2011, and her son Jerald Edward Strain in 2015.
She is survived by her son Robert Louis Strain, daughter Rebecca Sue Keef, daughter-in-law- Sondra Sue Strain, son-in-law Tony Georgis, many loving grandchildren, nieces and nephews and very special friends.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10 at East Lawn Memorial Park, 4300 Folsom Blvd., in Sacramento.
