Edward Joseph SpirutaMay 3, 1922 - July 5, 2009Edward Joseph Spiruta, 87, of Albany died Sunday at Samaritan Albany General Hospital.Ed was born in Robertsdale, Ala., to Frank and Christine Spiruta.  He grew up in Alabama and Chicago, Ill., but spent his adult life in Oregon.  After three years of service in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, he returned to Albany where he earned as associate's degree in law enforcement.  He went on to spend a total of 25 years with the Albany Police Department and the Linn County Sheriff's Office.  He retired as under sheriff of Linn County in 1981. He is survived by his wife, Lillian; stepson Gordon Martin; brother Joseph; sister Libby; two nieces; two nephews; and four greatnieces and greatnephews.At his request, there will be no services.AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home handled the arrangements ( www.aasum-dufour.com ).
