Edwina (Winnie) P.  Thomas-ProutyAug 21, 1916 - May 21, 2009Winnie Thomas-Prouty, 92, died Thurs. at Good Neighbor Care of Eugene.Winnie was born to Edward & Sarah (Tetlow) Thomas in Warrenton, OR and graduated from Star of the Sea Catholic High School in Astoria.  She married Gordon F. Prouty on April 18, 1936 & they lived in Carlton, Eugene, Monroe & Albany.  Gordon preceded her in death on July 20, 1979. Winnie worked for many years at OSU where she eventually retired as Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Education.  Through her caring and giving nature she spent much time volunteering with the Catholic Church and various schools.Family was an important part of Winnie's life.  She raised 10 children who blessed her richly with 37 Grandchildren & 63 Great-Grandchildren whom she loved unconditionally.  Winnie kept her ever-increasing family closely bonded by consistently planning reunions and get-togethers for most holidays.She is survived by her children Pauline (Polly) McIntire & husband John (Jack) of Eugene; Kathleen (Kay) Lent & husband Eddie of Salem; Arthur (Art) Prouty & wife Audrey of Albany; Dorothy (Dot) Ferry of Boring; Linda Hugo & husband Bruce of St. Helens; Gordon (Pat) Prouty & wife Pam of Albany; Janet Weeks of Boring; Steven Prouty & wife Debbie of Albany; Margaret (Peggy) Florance & husband Jay of Lacey, WA; John Prouty of Clovis, CA; and her sister Jessie (Thomas) VanWienen of Salem.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Viola Thomas and one granddaughter Sandy Atkinson.Funeral services will be Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albany with Rosary at 11:00 am, mass at 11:30 am and burial at Willamette Memorial Park at 2:30 pm.Contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association Cascade Chapter sent in care of AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home, 805 Ellsworth St. SW, Albany, OR, 97322 ( www.aasum-dufour.com ).
