Elsie Katherine KnabeJuly 31, 1923 - July 26, 2009Elsie Katherine Knabe, 85, passed away Sunday in Salem.Born in Coy, Okla., she was the daughter of the lateAlbert C. Schultz and Karoline Ratzlaff Schultz.  Shortly after her birth,the family moved to Protection, Kans., where she attended Bluff CreekSchool and Protection High School.  She married Robert Knabe on Aug. 9,1945. They moved to the Lebanon area in 1946.  In the early '50s, theymoved to Albany.  Elsie was an active member of Albany Mennonite Churchand later of New Hope Community Church.Elsie was an avid seamstress and loved to piece quilts.  She enjoyed manytypes of needlework.  She also loved to bake and cook.  One of herfavorite things was cooking and baking for her children and grandchildren.There were always homemade rolls, homemade noodles and sugar cookies inElsie's cupboards.Elsie spent 15 years at Linn-Benton Community College, cooking,baking, and teaching in the culinary arts program.She was preceded in death by three brothers, Vernon, Eldon, and Wilmer.She is survived by her husband, Robert; two siblings, Marie Selzer ofSharon Springs, Kans., and John Schultz and wife Dixie of Albany; andthree sons, Bryce and wife Annetta of Klamath Falls,Darryl and wife Gail of La Pine, and Cleve and wife Gin of Salem;daughter Cheeri Barnhart and husband Will of Rickreall; 11grandchildren, Troy Knabe and wife Staci, Travis Knabe, Lonny Knabeand wife Wende, Gina Umble and husband Jon, Lainie Knabe, JanieKnabe, Eliza Barnhart, Cambrie Caldwell, Ellie Barnhart, Zack Knabe, MykahKnabe; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.Private interment is at Fairview Mennonite Church Cemetery.  A MemorialService will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Albany Mennonite Church.  AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling arrangements.  { www.aasum-dufour.com }
