Erna O. Packard, 96, of Albany passed away on Saturday at Lydia's House.
Erna was born in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, to Frederick and Erna (Kollatsch) Oetken. She grew up in Lamars, Iowa and attended grade school there then moved to Greenfield, Iowa in 1933 and graduated from high school there.
Erna married Robert R. McVay on June 2, 1936, in Des Moines, Iowa, and they made their home in Greenfield and raised their family there. Robert passed away in 1963 and Erna moved to Albany in September of that year. She went to work for Federal Metals Credit Union where she became the assistant treasurer. Erna worked there until 1971 when she retired and married Leslie Packard and he preceded her in death in 1988.
Erna is survived by daughter JoAnn Boswell of West Des Moines, Iowa; sister Nellie Miller of Greenfield, Iowa; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son Robert McVay; sister Gacella "Gussie" Richards.
A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at Willamette Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home.
