Eugene J. Borthwick, 91, of Albany died Saturday.

Eugene was born in Warwick, N.D., to Ralph and Katherine (Seckinger) Borthwick the second of six children.

He married Evelyn Lehnherr on May 26, 1942. They moved to Oregon where he entered the army, arriving in England on July 29, 1944, his 24th birthday. He served with the 265 Field Artillery in the European Theater returning home on Christmas night 1945.

He was retired from Champion International in 1982.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 69 years, Evelyn; daughter Kathy Hauth and husband James of Mt. Angel; son Ralph of Salem; daughter Linda Townsend and husband Christopher; daughter Teresa Hellman and husband Val; son Michael Borthwick of Albany; daughter Patricia Sheler and husband Michael of Lebanon; and son Eugene Jr. and wife Julie of Albany; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. A recitation of the rosary will follow at 7 p.m. today at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albany. Burial will follow at Willamette Memorial Park.
