Eugene "Skip" W.
Hallett, Jr.
Jul 6, 1944 — Aug 20, 2026
Albany
Skip Hallett, longtime Albany resident, passed away at home in Albany with his wife, Judy, by his side. Skip was born on July 6, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Gene and Marie (Stiver) Hallett; the oldest in a family of four boys. He was given the nickname, “Little Skipper” from his grandfather because his dad was in the Navy when he was born. It was eventually shortened to “Skip” and stuck for the remainder of his life. Skip went to grade school in Bellfountain in a class of six students. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1963 where he lettered in Football.
Skip worked for the Monroe brickyard and the lumber mill before joining the Benton County Sheriff’s Office in October of 1967. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1972. While working full time for BCSO, he attended night classes and received a degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement from Linn-Benton Community College in June 1984; in his words, “to better myself for my kids and give them a better life.” He spent seven years with the Monroe Fire Department starting in 1968 and served time as a Monroe City Councilman in 1970. In October of 1997, Skip retired from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office after 30 years of service. To keep himself busy during retirement you could find him running his sports card shop in Albany, Final Score, from 1994-2002; and later working behind the counter at the local gun store, CNS Firearms, before it closed.
In 1964, Skip married Susan Horning. From this union, three children were born: Susan (Cook), Kenneth, and Terri (Davie); they later divorced. In 1978, Skip married Debbie Cohn and had one son, Scott. In 1999, Skip said, the third time was the charm, he moved in with and married his third wife, Judy, in July 2001.
Skip was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Randy & Gary), and a grandson, Zachary (Cook). He is survived by his wife, Judy; and best friend, Sprague (Glenda) Twedt. His brother Mousie (Becky) Hallett; his children, Susan Cook, Kenneth (Kim) Hallett, Terri (Mark) Davie, Scott (Kimberly) Hallett; nephew Ryan (Kendal) Hallett; granddaughter Heather (John) Etcheverry and great-grandchildren Austin, McKenzie, Brooklyn, Aspen, and London Etcheverry; plus, numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday October 2, 2026 at 1:00pm at the Scout Lodge in Philomath. 660 Clemens Mill Rd.
