Fred Mason Potter, 96, made his transition August 21, 2017, at Samaritan Albany General Hospital.
Fred was born on June 29, 1921, to Susan Pearl Potter and Fred Mason Potter Sr., in Roseburg, Oregon. He attended Nuggett Elementary School in Myrtle Creek and Myrtle Creek High School, where in his senior year he was the student body president. He also graduated from Eugene Vocational School where he met Edith Marie Whitaker. They were married June 14, 1942.
Fred served in the U.S. Army in World War II, later making his home with Edith in Albany. He was employed as a mechanics service manager and car salesman before retiring. Fred was a member of the Elks Lodge 359 and a 50-year member of the American Legion Post 10.
Fred is survived by his son Alan Leroy Potter (Barbara) of San Clemente, CA; sister Anna G. Stanfill of Salem; and grandchildren, Juliet Stowers, Craig Potter, Benjamin Potter and Andrew Potter; great-grandchildren, Jackson Maxwell, Keith Stowers and Emma Virata-Potter. Fred's wife Edith Marie preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Aasum-Dufour Funeral Home, 805 SW Ellsworth Street, Albany. Reception to follow. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens, 34275 Riverside Drive, Albany.
Donations in Fred Potter's name may be made to the American Legion Post 10, 1215 Pacific Blvd. SE, Albany, Oregon 97
