Obituary

Gary was born in Portland Oregon on November 3rd, 1950 to Homer and Nina Deyo and was the second of two children.  He grew up in the Parkrose area, graduating from Parkrose High School then going on to study automotive repair and Mt Hood Community College.

He met his wife Caryl in 1967 working as a bottle clerk/carry out boy for his future wife's parents at the Sandy Food Center.  They married in September of 1974, Gary then adopted Caryl's two sons from a previous marriage soon afterwards.  Gary loved and raised his sons like his own and taught them both being a father is much more than simple biology.  This bond is something they will remember, cherish, and hold dear to their hearts forever.

Gary enjoyed many activities like bowling, bbq'ing/smoking meats (especially Turkey, which was his specialty) watching movies, listening to financial shows on the radio, volunteering at the VFW post, the Eagles and the Moose Lodge where he was a lifetime member, but his main passion was finding dilapidated homes and renovating them into rentals.  He took this passion, ultimately quitting his job as Dairy Manager at Safeway, and started a successful home repair business with his wife.  Over the next 20+ years Gary lived his passion and enjoyed life until he and Caryl decided to "retire" in Jefferson, Oregon.

To know Gary was to love him.  He had a witty sense of humor as well as a smile and laugh that livened up the room and drew you to him.  He was kind and generous, the type of person that would give anyone the shirt of his back.  He was always willing to help his friends and family anytime they needed it.

Sadly, in mid-April he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.  After a short, hard fought battle he succumbed to his sickness.  He was surrounded by his family in his last hours of life and passed with his wife by his side.  He was a wonderful man/friend/father/husband who will be missed by many and loved forever.
