Obituary

The angels came and took Gary, 76, beloved husband, cherished father and treasured grandfather on Thanksgiving Day. He was at home, surrounded by loved ones when he passed due to a long illness.

Gary was born in San Diego, CA on December 30, 1936 and moved to Corvallis with his family in 1949. Gary attended Corvallis High School and joined the Army in 1954. Gary was a Korean War Veteran. He met Eva, the love of his life, in 1955 and married her later that year.

After leaving the service, Gary and family moved to Albany in 1960. Gary joined the Albany Police Department then later worked for Nebergall Meat Company. Gary retired from James River in Halsey in 1998.

Gary enjoyed traveling, fishing and garage sales. Spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren were his number one priority. Gary also enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren in everything they did. He could be counted on to be present at sporting events and other school activities of his children and grandchildren - always cheering them on as their biggest fan.

Gary was a proud man who loved his family and his faithful dog Ginger, more than anything. He appreciated all that life had to offer. For him, the act of living was about being the best husband, dad, and grandfather he could possibly be.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Eva, daughter Mary (Dick) Mintken, sons Gary (LeAnn), Rick (Cindy), and Frank (Holly). Grandchildren Todd (Melanie) Mintken, Ally (Dezi) Mesa, Adam, Michael, Anna, Myleigh, Jayden and Jozee. Brother Frank (Gloria) Schamp, sister Jeanette Steel, numerous nieces and nephews, goddaughter Leisa Lindberg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary.

Gary will be dearly missed by his entire family and forever in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in care of AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home.
