Gene Leroy Westbrook, 89, of Albany passed away Monday at Samaritan Evergreen Hospice in Albany.
A service will be performed at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at South Albany Community Church.
Gene was born in Revillo, South Dakota, to John Westbrook and Mary Edythe Sutton. The Westbrook family moved to Albany in May of 1939. Gene enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and served in the South Pacific.
In 1949, Gene married Carol Mercer. They had four daughters: Sherry Watson, Debbie Hardesty, DeAnn Nelson and Marcia Freeman. Gene married Elaine Suing in December 1973. With this marriage he acquired two sons, Michael and David Bartosz, and daughter Joanie Johnson.
Gene was a charter member of the South Albany Community Church where he spent many hours serving the Lord. He was a successful Real Estate Broker in the Albany area and enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing and planting a garden to share with the community.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; brother Glen Westbrook of Rickreall; his children, 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by brothers Curt, Ross and Jack; and sisters Mildred and Margaret.
Donations may be made to South Albany Community Church or Samaritan Evergreen Hospice of Albany.
