Obituary

George Lawrence Walters February 11, 1941-October 5, 2022

Lawrence Walters passed on to his heavenly reward on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, with his wife, Carol, and his two daughters, Valerie and Corrie, at his bedside.

He was born February 11, 1941, in Bushnell, Illinois to Albert and Katherine Walters and was the last of five children.

The family moved to Clarkston, Washington where Lawrence graduated from high school in 1959, then joined the Marine Corps in 1960, making it a career as a data analyst for twenty-one years. While in the service, he took college classes and received his BA in Economics and Business Administration.

He married Cheryl Rae Ebel in 1966 and together they raised four "perfect" children, Valerie Nafe', Corina Rae, Tara Jean, and Vincent Allen, whom he loved with all his heart. At the end of his military career in 1981, having earned the rank of Master Sergeant, he moved his family to Spokane, Washington where he worked for Safeco Insurance until 1991 as a Senior Property Adjuster.

Lawrence pursued many passions throughout his life, among them were skydiving, playing in horseshoe tournaments, and bicycle racing/touring. He began a bicycle safety program in the Spokane schools while living there. In his later years he bowled on a senior league, and he wrote four books about his life experiences. The latest one will be going to print and will be available to purchase.

In 1996, he married Carol Jones in Albany, Oregon where they made their home. They enjoyed traveling in their little Scamp trailer to many beautiful National parks and also took the opportunity to fly "military stand-by" to Europe and Alaska. They worked together in their church, the Albany First Church of God, where Lawrence served as the chairman of the board. He loved the Lord and lived to please Him. He also worked as an administrator for Albany Helping Hands, fulfilling a need to help the homeless.

Lawrence was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2000 but didn't let that stop him from accomplishing his goals. In November 2018, he moved to Waverly Place Assisted Living where he lived out the rest of his life. Lawrence and Carol made many new friends there and he received excellent care.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; his sister-in-law, Lois Walters; his four children: Valerie Nafe', Corina Walters, Tara (Erin) McCrum, Vincent (Mary) Walters and grandchildren: Michaela, Katherine, Isaac, Jack, Samantha, Ethan and Silas; also, Carol's two daughters, Tiffany (Sanjai) Tripathi, Amber (Ryan) Mitchell, and grandchildren: Jacqueline, Victoria, Levi, Alma, and Kira. He was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, Robert, Louis, and Russell, a sister, Janet and his ex-wife, Cheryl Walters.

There will be a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, October 29 at 10:30 in the First Church of God on 1225 15th Avenue SW, Albany, Oregon, 97321.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: The National Parkinson's Foundation.
