Obituary

Glen Vernon Evenhus Sr. of Albany peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sept. 25. He was 84.
Glen was born Nov. 23, 1929, in Maddock, North Dakota, to Albin and Stella (Hellesvig) Evenhus.
He grew up in North Dakota and married Neysa Bergeth on Aug. 13, 1949. They had six children. They moved to Renton, Washington, in 1954, and then to Oregon in 1962. They later divorced.
As a young man, Glen's dream was to become a professional boxer. His dad discouraged him from this dream, so he then went into an apprenticeship with a contractor in Moorhead, Minnesota, to learn to be a plasterer/sheetrocker/contractor. He took his workmanship seriously to give his best.
Glen had a love for horses all his life. He was a rodeo cowboy. He enjoyed riding bucking broncos and bulls until he was 62 years of age. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping; was a Scoutmaster in Washington; bowled on bowling leagues; played pool; and watched World Wrestling Entertainment and Portland Wrestling.
In his later years he joined the Enduring A's Chapter of the Model A Ford Club of America, and drove his 1930 Model A in many parades and tours with his eldest son, Glenn Vernon Jr., "Vern."
Surviving are six children, Sharyl Michael (husband Ed) of Dayton, Glenn Vernon Jr. "Vern" of Albany, Bev Bower (husband Greg) of Albany, Lorna Coats (husband David) of Tigard, Peggy Evenhus (husband Eric) of Goldendale, Washington, and Richard (wife Mary) of Hillsboro; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brothers Al of Philomath, Earnest of Great Falls, Montana, James of Salem and Kenneth of Lebanon; and one sister, Shirley Coellen of Littleton, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albin and Stella; brothers Gerald, Dean, Dennis and Stanley; and one grandson, Matthew Michael.
A celebration of life will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, in the Family Center of First Assembly of God in Albany, with Pastor Frank Silverii officiating. Fellowship with the family will follow. A private graveside service will take place at Belcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Salem.
