A life well-lived, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Fannie Callahan. Her life began in Smoke Mount, North Carolina. She shared life with what became 15 siblings. Glyda's upbringing in a fun-filled, music-making, do-more-with-less, Christian family molded her life forever.
Glyda married her one and only love, the late Robert Earl Galloway, on Sept. 25, 1943, in Pickens, South Carolina. Three children were born to this union.
When Glyda reminisced about her life, she stated, "I've had a very blessed life. I was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom, I was able to be a care-giver to my parents, help Earl in his business (by being a parts chaser and whatever else he needed), babysit my grandkids, work on church mission projects, sing in the church choir, as well as teach at church."
Glyda was a charter member of Grant Avenue Baptist Church in Corvallis and lastly a member of Calvary Baptist in Albany. She sang in the church choir for over 60 years as well as held many positions within the church her entire life. The last position was co-teacher of the High Climbers Sunday School class. Many folks were recipients of her caring heart, be it flowers from her garden, a meal for those in need, a card for every occasion, a well-check phone call, a simple smile or a laugh that would warm your heart. Glyda loved books, communicating with friends and loved-ones on the computer, even assuring us she wasn't afraid to try Windows Ten. To know her was to love her.
Surviving are her children, Nancy and Don Bullock of Vancouver, Washington, Patti and Noel Haile of Albany, and Bob Galloway of Albany; siblings Gaynell Fisher, Clyde Callahan, Marylee Hall, Geneva Stuckrath and Rita Fisher; seven grandchildren and spouses; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Glyda was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Trena Haile.
