George Leo Koos, Jr.Sept. 6, 1918 - June 19, 2010George Koos Jr., 91, of Tangent passed away peacefully on Saturday at the Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital with family by his side.He was born in Albany to George Leo Koos Sr. and Anna Christina (Harnisch) Koos. At the age of 2, he moved to the Koos Family Farm in Tangent where he lived the rest of his life. George Leo graduated from Albany High School class of 1936 and then attended Albany College.Prior to World War II, George Leo worked at an Army Air Base in Fairbanks, Alaska. On April 10, 1942, he was inducted into the Army. He served in a bomb disposal unit as a part of Patton'sThird Army serving in northern France, Rhineland and central Europe. During the war at a USO dance in Charlottesville, Va., he met Agnes Virginia Christian of Appomattox, Va., who became his wife on Aug. 28, 1943. They were married for almost 67 years.After his military discharge on Dec. 21, 1945, the couple moved the Koos Family Farm where George began farming with his father. George Leo was a diversified farmer raising grass seeds, grains and livestock. He retired from farming in 1981 and was proud when his two sons took over the farm. Throughout his life, George Leo enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards and getting together with family and friends. As a member of the American Contract Bridge League, George Leo attained a Silver Life Master ranking. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Lebanon and the American Legion, Post 10 in Albany.He is preceeded in death by his parents; sister Eleanor Laird; and son Karl. Survivors include his wife, Agnes Virginia Koos; daughters Kristin and husband Gary Biskeborn of Chamberlain, S.D., and Kathryn and husband Ken Lee of Honolulu, Hawaii; sons George Kim and wife Cory Koos of Albany, and Kerwin and wife Robin Koos of Albany; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.A viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home in Albany. A graveside service will be at 11a.m. Thursday at Willamette Memorial Park with a military honor guard.Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Lebanon or the American Legion Post 10 of Albany.
