H.W. "Dub" Norris Jr.
Jan. 13, 1944 - June 25, 2015
SSG H.W. "Dub" Norris Jr., 71, died unexpectedly, yet peacefully at the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House in Albany on June 25, 2015.
SSG Norris was born on Jan. 13, 1944, in Houston, Texas, to H.W. SR and Georgia Norris. In 1964, he joined the armed forces and served over 20 years. As a Vietnam Veteran, he was also awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation and Good Conduct Medal.
SSG Norris was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as a patient and loving father. He married Bonita Shults on June 26, 1978, and later divorced. Besides his family, he loved fishing, hunting, camping, bowling, the Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Braves.
He is survived by his children, Linda Yamasawa, Christy Hainline, Christopher Norris, Cynthia Danford, Patricia Norris and H.W. "Jerry" Norris III; siblings Henry, Raylene, Eugene, Marcia, Edna, Retha, David, Loretta, Rhonda, Michael, Marsha, and Mark; and his 20 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, H.W. Sr. and Georgia Norris.
A service will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 13, at Willamette National Cemetery. Pastor Dan Berg will officiate the ceremony.
Funeral arrangements are provided by AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. Flowers may be sent to 805 Ellsworth St. S.W., Albany, OR 97321.
