Hazel Irene TruaxOctober 1, 1923 - January 7, 2008Hazel Irene Truax, 84, of Albany passed away Monday at the Mennonite Home.She was born in Springfield, Missouri, the daughter of John and Gertrude (Root) Cooksey. She was raised in Missouri and graduated from Springfield High School. She married Frank L. Truax in San Diego, CA, on November 21, 1943. In 1948, they moved to Crabtree, where she was very involved as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader and vacation Bible school leader at Crabtree Christian Church. Hazel was also a volunteer at the Crabtree Grade School and started a newspaper for Crabtree called the Crabtree Leaf.She enjoyed writing, crocheting, singing, baking, canning, and flower gardening but most of all her grandchildren. Hazel was a avid fan of her grandchildren's sports activities and was an extended grandmother to many.She is survived by daughter Marcia L. Swanson and husband Dennis of Albany; sisters Louise Shepard of Topeka, Kansas, Leona Beeves of San Diego, Frances Orsborn of Crabtree and Betty Williams of Springs, TX; grandchildren Kelli Backer and husband Kelly, and Craig Swanson and wife Janelle, all of Albany; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Frank L. Truax; brothers Marion Cooksey, J. Walter Cooksey, W. LeRoy Cooksey and James Cooksey; and sisters Helen Scott and Edith Ropke.Visitation will be Thursday, January 10, from 2:00 to 7:00 P.M. at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Lebanon IOOF Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Crabtree Christian Church or the West Albany Sports Foundation in care of the funeral home. AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling arrangements. (
