Henry MadarusAug. 27, 1922 - Feb. 1, 2010 Henry Madarus, 87, passed away Monday. The son of John and Anna Madarus, he was born west of Scio. In 1930 at the age of 7, the family moved to a farm in Richardson Gap east of Scio. He completed the eighth grade at Richardson Gap Grade School. He lived on the family farm until entering World War II. The majority of the time was spent in Korea. He married Ellen Allman July 1, 1950, in the First Baptist Church in Scio. They lived in Albany until 1956 and then moved to Healdsburg, Calif. After living in California for two years, they returned back to Albany. Due to his illness, he spent the final seven months of his life at Regency Albany, where he died. He worked for Edwards Sawmill. After it burned, he went to work for Albany Lumber Company moving with them to California. After returning to Albany, he went into the carpenters trade until his retirement. Most of this time he worked for Wald Tilt-Up Walls, putting up many industrial buildings in Albany and Salem, and upon retirement he enjoyed working part time for Burcham Metals for several years. Hank was an avid bowler and fisherman. He had many good times with his buddies. He went hunting, but didn't like killing anything, so was the camp cook. Camping mainly in the mountains was a favorite activity during the summers with extended family and friends. The family has many fond memories of these trips. Later a favorite activity was spending week ends at "Terry-A-While" in Yachats with all the children and families. Survivors include: his wife, Ellen; daughter Peggy and husband Richard Bruner; sons, David and wife Maureen Madarus of Lebanon; Willard "Bill" and wife Kym Madarus of Albany. Granddaughters Kimberly and husband Kyle Baker, and Tammara and husband Matthew Lahmann; stepgrandaughters Brittany and husband Rodney Hanson of Sweet Home, and Ashlee Ellefson of Lebanon; four step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Mary Madarus of Salem; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Madarus; sister Mary and husband George Rice; brothers William "Bill" and Aldena Madarus, Joe Madarus and Johnny Madarus. Nephews, Larry and Edwin (Buddy) Madarus. A viewing will be from noon to 6 p.m. Friday at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. A service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. Burial follows at Franklin Butte Cemetery in Scio. Memorial contributions may be made to Santiam Christian School Scholarship Fund or a charity of your choice in care of Aasum-Dufour Funeral Home.
