Isabelle “Mike” Landes

December 31, 1927 - April 3, 2026

It is with sadness we announce the passing of our Mom, fondly known as Mike. She was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Charles Ronald Swaby and Elsie Spencer, the second oldest of four children. She grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan without electricity or indoor plumbing. She became a Registered Nurse and came to the United States to work in a hospital in Portland, Oregon. She is predeceased by her spouse Merle Landes, parents and three siblings.

Mike was an avid golfer and played regularly until her late 80s. In the 1960’s Mom and Dad were original members of Springhill Country Club in Albany, Oregon. She hit a hole in one on the 17th hole on June 11, 2008, which is Mark’s birthday. She was a dedicated Portland Trailblazer fan since the team's inception in the 1970’s and rarely missed watching a game. She was a gourmet cook and enjoyed entertaining, dancing, traveling, gardening and pruned her rose bushes faithfully. In the 1970s, she and Dad fell in love with Hawaii and were lucky to spend time there almost every year for decades.

She is survived by her two children, Lori Moirao (daughter-in-law Diane Shouse) of Walnut Creek, California and Mark Landes of Albany, Oregon and five grandchildren, Kelsey Landes Moirao of Vallejo, California (grandson-in-law Mike Fleischer), Haley Landes Blazhevski (grandson-in-law Stevche Blazhevski) and Austin Landes, all of Albany, Oregon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Shriners Children's Portland. Contributions can be sent to 3101 SW Sam Jackson Park Rd, Portland, OR 97239, or made online at shrinerschildrens.org. A celebration of life is being considered at a later date.
