Jack Allen Martin

February 22, 1935 - December 9, 2014
Jack Martin 79, died peacefully December 9, 2014 at the Evergreen Hospice House in Albany, Oregon. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Mary Agnus Martin who died March 30, 2014. Jack and Mary met later in life after they both became widows. Their love of gourmet food and fine dining brought the two together through an online dating sight as they both were seeking a dinner companion to avoid dining alone. Needless to say after their first lunch date they never dined alone again they were married a few months later in 2003.
Jack was also preceded in death by his first wife Clara Martin, siblings Rex Martin, Gary Martin , Kathy Martin and Daughter Debra Hope.
Jack was born in Junction City, Oregon to Alva and Lucy Martin. He graduated from Shedd High School in 1953. He was a Korean war veteran stationed in New York 1953-1955. After his military service he came back to Oregon where he met and married Clara and had two daughters.
Jack was in the Paper Industry working for Western Kraft, Georgia Pacific, and Louisiana Pacific which spanned the course of 23 years. He performed the initial research into International Standardization of the testing of pulp and paper products which became instrumental in the formation of the formation of the International Standard Organization (ISO) which is widely used today for International Commerce of almost any product. His career relocated his family to Eureka, California from 1965-1979, Batesville, Arkansas from 1979 - 1989, Healdsburg, California 1989-1993. In 1994 being a widow he moved to Sebastopol, Ca where he took a job as a caretaker at Lynmar winery. Jack enjoyed learning about the art of wine making, organizing events , hosting guests, and maintaining the everyday functions of the estate. He also had a talent for ornamental iron and was able to create and sale many of his pieces to local wineries and create unique sculptures for the estate.
In his spare time Jack loved to go into the City and listen to the sounds. He loved Jazz music and after he met Mary he realized he liked to dance to Jazz too. He loved to golf and spent a great deal of time driving to different courses to enjoy the beauty and improve his game. Jack was an incredible photographer. His favorite shots to capture were of nature. He began making calendars each year and he and Mary would deliver them to people who had touched their lives throughout the year. Jack had a bucket list and just the fact that 80% of his list was marked off truly reflects his adventurous, positive, inspiring outlook on life.
Jack is survived by granddaughters Amanda & Alicia, two great-grandchildren, nieces Joani Grossman, Sharon Shearin, Shelly Barrineau and nephew Barry Martin.

A special thank you to Evergreen Hospice Staff for your genuine kindness, love and great care you gave to Jack and Mary.
