Jacob "Jake" M. LeichtySept. 28, 1924 - Aug. 26, 2008Jake M. Leichty, 83, of Albany passed away Tuesday at his home.He was born on the family farm in Albany, the son of Nicholas and Magdalena (Maurer) Leichty. He was raised on the the farm and attended schools in Albany, graduating from Albany High School. He married Norma Jean Warye on July 10, 1949, and they resided on the farm. Jake worked the farm and was a member of Fairview Mennonite Church. He enjoyed farming, gardening, local history, hunting, fishing, and was a HAM radio operator.He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Norma Jean Leichty; daughters Barbara Jo Kaufman of Albany and Janita Garcia of Grand Rapids, Mich.; sons Calvin Leichty of Albany and Philip Leichty of Lebanon; sisters Esther Kropf of Arizona, Alice Sawatsky of Minnesota, and Edna Widmer and Wilma Kanagy both of Albany; brothers Clarence Leichty of Indiana and Wilmer Leichty of Albany; 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Daniel Leichty; and sister Ruth Roth.A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Fairview Mennonite Cemetery, with a memorial service to follow at 4 p.m. at the Fairview Mennonite Church.
