Obituary

James Karageorge (Greek birth name: Dimitri), a faithful Lutheran passed away peacefully at home in Albany, OR on March 28th, 2025. Born April 18, 1936, to Greek immigrant parents Kostas and Irene (maiden name: Papacousma) Karageorge, in Freeport, New York. He was baptized on May 18, 1936. Pop, Mom and big brother Ted Karageorge (Greek birth name: Eleftherios) preceded him in death. James is survived by Patricia Diane, his spouse of sixty years, his children Bruce, Karla, Craig, Keith and Kurt, his grandchildren Danielle, Casey, Sage, Brock, Willow, Katie and Yuan-Yu, his niece Melissa, nephew Ted, daughters-in-law Sylvia, Rebecca, Monica, Nancy and sister-in-law Leona Karageorge.

James graduated from Ventura High and was a proud veteran who honorably served in the United States Airforce during years 1955-1959 at Scott AFB, IL; Edwards AFB, CA and stationed in Keflavik, Iceland as an electronics and radio repairman. Upon an honorable discharge, he received a good conduct award. After graduating from San Jose State University in mathematics and scientific programming, he worked for Lockheed Martin and Singer-Link in the bay area as an engineer. James returned to Ventura, CA and worked for the county until 1978. He and his family then relocated to Beaverton, OR where he worked for Bonneville Power Administration until he retired.

Every federal holiday, James would take his family on adventures in the family motor home to locations that include British Columbia, Washington; South Jetty, Yaquina Bay Oregon, California and Mexico.  James was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith on May 15th, 1983. He was an active member at Pilgrim Lutheran Church Beaverton, OR and later at Holy Cross Lutheran Church Albany, OR.

A memorial service will be held April 12th at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2515 Queen Ave, Albany, OR 97322. A military honors ceremony will begin at 11:00am followed by the service and then a luncheon for family and friends.
