Obituary

Jimmy Martin, 46, of Albany passed away Saturday at Timberview Care Center.

He was born in Grants Pass to Donald H. and Mary A. (Stauffer) Martin. He grew up in Albany, and graduated from West Albany High School in 1987. Jimmy was the high school sports equipment manager for all four years and was presented with the Tom Holman Spirit Award in 1987. He went on to become the sports equipment manager at Linn-Benton Community College for the next 10 years.

Jimmy enjoyed many years of working at Taco Bell, Arby's and then Novak's Hungarian Restaurant. He has been our local sports teams' biggest fan, cheering for the Bulldogs, Beavers, Volcanoes and Corvallis Knights. He was a big part of Albany First Assembly of God and enjoyed his ministry teams, which included the group Free on the Inside.

Jimmy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just one year ago, but he and his family and friends have enjoyed many games and parties over the last year. He lived well up to the very end.

Jimmy is survived by his parents; brother Bret; sisters Brenda and Melinda; and many extended family members.

A celebration of life will take place at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Albany First Assembly of God. Wear your favorite team colors (no green or yellow, please!).

Memorial contributions can be made to Albany First Assembly, the Knight Cancer Center or Samaritan Evergreen Hospice, in care of the funeral home.

AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling the arrangements ( www.aasum-dufour.com ).
