Obituary

James Scott Roath was born August 7th, 1956, and passed March 11th, 2023. He was met in passing by his late father William "Bill" Roath and his brother Brett Roath.

Scott grew up in Murray City, Utah, where he lettered on the swim team for the Murray High school, and later served in the United States Navy. By trade, Scott was an auto mechanic with over 30 years of experience, before retiring as a Master Volvo Tech.

Scott enjoyed fishing in many lakes and rivers, and often chartered the Pacific Ocean waters. He had always dreamt of fishing in Alaska, especially during salmon runs. Scott enjoyed many trips to the beach and had many hobbies including family genealogy, scouting, spending time outdoors, various methods of cooking, including the Dutch oven, but most of all, he really enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

You would often see Scott playing games or rolling around with all 14 of his grandchildren and holding a conversation about the many topics he found interesting with his kids. Scott had the spirit of a bear, he was strong with confidence, but also kind-hearted and accepting to all, much like a teddy bear. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints who played a critical part in his community, with a lot of family and friends who will miss him deeply.

Scott was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Beverly Jean "Jeannie" Roath. Scott was the devoted father to 5 children: Jay Roath, Joshua Roath, Cody Roath, Melissa Pope and Lindsey Roath; His mother, Melva Ashby Sorensen; his sisters, Connie Welch and Heidi Clegg.
