Janie LaVaughn Conner, 88, of Albany passed away on Friday at her residence.
Janie was born in Taylor Township, Okla., to Marion and Sarah (Boren) Head. She grew up in Oklahoma and when she was 8 the family moved to the Oregon slope of the Snake River Valley. Janie graduated from Ontario High School and married Gerald H. 'Gerry' Conner on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1947, in Winnemucca, Nev. Because of Gerry's military career they moved many times during their marriage but settled in Albany in 1975.
She enjoyed crocheting, oil painting, playing in bowling leagues, shooting pool, working crossword puzzles, and was an avid cribbage player. Janie volunteered at the Albany General Hospital gift shop and she and Gerry where members of the Albany Elks Lodge.
Janie is survived by son Michael Conner and wife Donna; daughter Carla A. Conner; daughter-in-law Laurie M. Trombley (widow of son Craig E. Conner); seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald, son Craig and seven brothers and sisters.
A graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Samaritan Albany General Hospital Foundation in care of the funeral home.
