John Dwayne Lyon passed away peacefully at his Corvallis home in the presence of his beloved wife, Leona Mae Lyon, and a house filled with beloved family members.
John and Leona enjoyed 63 years together after being married Oct 15, 1950, in Jefferson. They maintained their membership and active involvement in the Evangelical Church their entire life together, most recently Albany First Evangelical. Their personal faith and relationship with Christ as savior being their most prized joint possession.
John and Leona enjoyed several decades of adventurous life together on a family farm in Independence sharing that blessing with their three sons, John Dee Lyon, Larry Alan Lyon and Gary Lee Lyon, as well as numerous extended family members and eventually their grandchildren. They sold their farm in 1998 and moved to Corvallis. Grandma Leona is left "alone" to enjoy life with her seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
John was one of seven siblings and is survived by a lone sister, Ruth Johnson, who was at his side as he passed away.
John was proud of his service in the US Army toward the end of World War II where he served for two years as part of the occupational troops in Japan. An honor guard will be present at a private family service and burial in Jefferson today.
The family would like to acknowledge the professional and kind services provided by Samaritan Evergreen Hospice at the end of John's life. Anyone wanting to honor the memory of John Lyon can make a donation to this wonderful organization.
