Obituary

John William McNaughton

July 7, 1947 — Oct. 4, 2016

John William McNaughton passed away Oct. 4, 2016, at the age of 69.

John was born July 7, 1947, in Brookhaven, Mississippi, to Ruby Dishman Brinson and Fred Brinson. He was later adopted by John and Carries McNaughtan and grew up in the Lebanon area.

John was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1964 to 1967 as a medical corpsman in Vietnam. A man of many talents, John had careers in Oregon and Washington as a millwright, in logging and trucking, commercial fishing, and welding and fabrication.

John worked hard and played hard in his free time which he enjoyed spending with family and friends. He was a member of Corvallis Elks Lodge and spent several years dedicating his time to the mission of the Elks. John always made time to spend with his friends. He loved thought provoking conversation over coffee, camping, boating and fishing, playing cribbage, target shooting, and long rides on his motorcycle. Most of all, John loved his family.

John is survived by his wife of 26 years, Melanie Crowson McNaughton; son Aaron McNaughton of Corvallis; daughter Angela McNaughton and grandchildren John McNaughton of Washington, Amelia Emery of Cottage Grove, and Amanda Svenson of Virginia; brother Charles McNaughtan and wife Jenel of Bermuda Dunes, California; sister Barbara Cathey and husband Dale of Chico, California; brother Tom Ramsey and wife Laura of Milwaukie; and his many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, whom he deeply appreciated.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Crowfoot Baptist Church, 699 Cascade Drive, Lebanon.
