John Allen Seglem Sept. 4,1938 -April 24, 2023

John Seglem passed away at Salem Memorial Hospital in Salem Oregon April 24th of complication of kidney disease. He was 84.

John was born in Gig Harbor, Washington in 1938 to Alice Dorothy Brooks Seglem, and Herbert John Seglem.

He was confirmed in the Lutheran Church of Gig Harbor in 1952. He graduated from Peninsula High School in 1956 where he played Catcher on the varsity baseball team and the American Legion baseball teams.

He joined the Army Reserves right out of high school and married Maureen Hume in 1957. They had twin children Sherry and Terry Seglem.

John worked his entire career for Mountain View Memorial Cemetery and Funeral Services, retiring as Superintendent of operations in 2000.

On Dec. 16, 1997 John married Carmen Plautz, in Gig Harbor, Washington.

John was a dedicated member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Salem OR.  He enjoyed time with his family; fishing in Puget Sound; woodworking (Bird Houses}; RV'ing; and of course Bird watching.

He was preceded in death by his parents Alice and Herbert; sister Nancy Iverson; and ex-wife Maureen Hume. He is survived by his wife Carmen of Salem Or.; daughter Sherry Seglem of Tacoma WA.; grandson Alex Vea; son Terry Seglem of Live Oaks Ca.; stepdaughter Laura Higgins; granddaughter Kaia Morris of Tacoma WA; one niece; and four nephews.

A private service will be held at Willamette Memorial Park in Millersburg Oregon.
