Obituary

Katherine Austina Cox, known affectionately as Katherine to her friends and family, passed away peacefully at home on August 8, 2024, at the age of 94, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family.

Born on May 26, 1930, in Cordell, Oklahoma, Katherine was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her. Katherine was the loving daughter of the late Robert and Addie Colbert. She was a cherished sister to Olita Johnston and the late Carolyn Segura and Robert Cox.

Her life was a testament to love and commitment, beautifully illustrated by her marriage to Lowell (Barney) Cox, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Together, they raised a family that included their beloved children Connie Beattie (deceased), Tim Cox and his wife Cindy, Laura Huddleson and her husband Paul, Kim (Buzz) Cox (deceased), James Cox, Pam Hardwick, and Greg Cox. Katherine was the proud matriarch of a large and flourishing family that included grandson Chad Perkins (deceased), 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brough her immeasurable joy.

After graduating from Albany High School, she worked at the local phone company. Katherine's heart was always open, and her hands were never idle. Her love for gardening, reading and crocheting were passions that she pursued with the same gentle dedication that she applied to every aspect of her life.

Those who knew Katherine would describe her as loving, generous, and gentle. She was a woman whose presence was a comforting embrace to the soul, her kindness a constant in an ever-changing world. In her gentle way, Katherine taught by example, embodying the well-known words of Mother Teresa: "Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier." Katherine indeed left a legacy of love and happiness that will endure through the generations. Katherine's life journey was one of warmth, love, and generosity. Her gentle spirit and generous heart have left an indelible mark on all who were privileged to know her.

As we say goodbye to Katherine, we celebrate a life well lived, one filled with moments of love, laughter, and the beauty of quiet generosity. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of her beloved family and friends. As we bid farewell to Katherine, let us hold close the memories and the love she shared, allowing them to comfort us in this time of loss. Katherine's journey on earth may have come to a close, but the impact of her 94 years will resonate for many more to come.

Rest in peace, dear Katherine, knowing that your story is not one with an ending, but a beautiful legacy that continues to unfold through the lives of those you've touched.
