Kathryn Louise HalvorsenJuly 29, 1923 - Sept. 15, 2007Salem---Kathryn Louise Halvorsen, 84, of Salem, passed away peacefully Saturday at the South Salem Rehab and Specialty Care Center. Mrs. Halvorsen was born in Palouse, Wash., to Louis and Katie (Olberg) Evans. She was raised in Longview, Wash., and graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1941. She married Frederick Halvorsen March 21, 1944 in Natchez, Mississippi. They lived in Longview until moving to Oregon in 1955, settling in Albany in 1962. She worked as a secretary for a variety of businesses in Albany. In 2004, she moved to Salem to be near her family. She had a loving and giving heart and will be missed by all those she touched in her lifetime. Mrs. Halvorsen was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She especially enjoyed the fellowship of her church circle. Survivors include sons Doug of Glendora, Calif., Dave and Stan of Salem, and Jerry of Otis; brothers James Evans of Lakewood, Wash. and Dan Evans of Longview, Wash.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and several loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, sister Nadine Dundas and brother Bill Evans. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church in Albany. Burial will follow at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens. Pastor Laurie Lofsvold will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Special Olympics.
