Larry E. Kitchen

Larry Eugene Kitchen was born in Los Angeles, California, to Harry and Ursulla (Clemann) Kitchen.
He grew up in San Bernardino, California, and received his high school diploma from San Bernardino High School in 1957. He played the piano throughout his childhood. He also played high school football and baseball.
During the summers of 1957, 1958 and 1959, he was a crew member of the Del Rosa Hotshots who were often assigned to fire suppression duties at the head of fires primarily in the national forest land near San Bernardino.
He earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from California State University, Los Angeles in 1961. Larry was a life-long learner and shared his love of learning with everyone who knew him.
He initially utilized his education while working for the California State Colleges Chancellor's Office in Inglewood, California, on the high school transcript study. He then was employed by the American Institutes for Research in Los Altos Hills where he worked on Project Plan which developed early computer assisted education packages for schools. From there, he was employed in data processing management at Stanford University, the city and county of San Francisco and Salem Public Schools.
Upon leaving Salem Public Schools, Larry became a successful entrepreneur which left him able to pursue many personal interests such as travel, chess, fishing and camping.
Larry held life-memberships in AAII (American Association of Individual Investors) as well as memberships in Mensa International and Elks USA.
Larry passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, at home in Lebanon after battling cancer.
Larry leaves his bride of 56 years, Rowena (Young) Kitchen; three children, Alan Kitchen, Maureen Phelps and Stephanie (Steve) Henion; son-in-law Loyd Henioin; and grandsons Aidan Phelps and Bryce Phelps. He also leaves additional family and many friends who he loved dearly.
Family and friends were present at his bedside in honor of his passing.
