Obituary

We celebrate the life of Linda Susan Vorderstrasse Tedisch, beloved wife, mother, Grandmother, sister, and nurse, who passed away peacefully on June 11, 2024, in Albany, Oregon. Born on October 24, 1952, in Lebanon, Oregon, Linda's life was one of unwavering dedication to her family, her profession, and her community.

Linda's early years were spent in the nurturing environment of Lebanon. She attended Denny School until the 8th grade and then graduated from Lebanon High School in 1970. Her passion for caring for others led her to pursue a career in nursing, culminating in a Diploma in Nursing from Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Portland, Oregon, in 1973.

Linda's professional journey was as remarkable as it was long-lasting. She began her nursing career at Albany General Hospital immediately after graduation, where she served as a staff nurse in ICU/CCU and OB/GYN. Her compassion and leadership skills quickly shone through, and by 1980, she became a relief Supervisor. In 1987, Linda took on the role of Department Manager for the hospital's Critical Care Unit, where she oversaw the development of a new ICC/CCU. Although she faced a brief layoff in 1994, her resilience led her to work with Dr. Kenneth Stevens and Dr. Ed Sargent, and she promptly returned to Albany General Hospital as a House Supervisor the following year.

Linda's commitment to her community was evident in her efforts to establish Albany's first Urgent Care facility at Waverly and Queen and later coordinated its move to Geary and Queen. She served as their RN lead, RN specialist, and Clinical Manager until 2013, when she became the Care Coordinator at Lebanon's Medical Home Clinic with Dr. Wopat. After a fulfilling 43-year career, Linda retired from nursing in 2016, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and excellence.

Even in retirement, Linda continued to serve her community through the local Faith Community Health Network as the Parish Nurse for Immanuel Lutheran Church. She dedicated herself to the health and spiritual well-being of her congregation, embodying the essence of service.

Linda's zest for life was not confined to her professional endeavors. She was a creative soul, with hobbies that included sewing Halloween costumes and clothes for her grandchildren, quilting, and gardening. Her family fondly wonders who will match her skill in mending torn clothes and removing stubborn stains—talents that were as much a part of her nurturing nature as her nursing.

Her love for history was reflected in her involvement with Albany Engine Co. #1, where she helped preserve the Albany Fire Department's legacy. As a member of Altrusa International of Albany for over 30 years, Linda's commitment to supporting children was unwavering, engaging in projects that made tangible differences in young lives.

A lifelong member of the Lutheran faith, Linda's spiritual journey began at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lebanon and continued at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Albany. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and her commitment to her church and its members.

Linda is survived by her devoted husband, Darrel Tedisch; her loving children, Heather Tedisch Wells and Matthew Tedisch; and her caring brothers, Brian and Larry Vorderstrasse. She was preceded in death by her parents, Patricia Moore Vorderstrasse and Chuck Vorderstrasse and sister Luann Vorderstrasse.

In the words of Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Linda Tedisch will be remembered for the countless lives she touched with her kindness and the warmth she brought to every heart she encountered. Her legacy of love, dedication, and service will live on in the memories of those who knew her and in the many lives she impacted. Today, we honor the memory of Linda Susan Vorderstrasse Tedisch, a woman who truly made the world a better place.
