Lois Virginia Goss AkinFeb. 17, 1918 - Nov. 20, 2009Lois Virginia Goss Akin, 91, passed away Friday.Lois was born in San Diego, Calif. She had a sister, Kate, and brother John. They moved to Temple City, Calif., while she was in her teens. Lois married Paul Akin on July 2, 1938. They began their family the next year. Her husband served in the US Navy during World War II. After he was discharged, they moved to Azusa, Calif.After leaving California, they moved to Albany. Two weeks later they witnessed the Columbus Day storm and in 1963 they moved to Jefferson where they lived for many years. Afterwards they moved back to Albany.Lois lost her husband to cancer in 1995.Lois was interested in all needlecrafts, but was especially skilled in crochet.She made numerous beautiful afghans for family members. Lois also enjoyed "old things", beautifying their home, while outside she was also an excellent gardener, managing large vegetable and flower gardens for many years, and having a particular interest in roses, especially David Austin English Roses.Lois made everyone feel welcome when they came into her home. She was a very sweet, loving and kind person. Lois was especially generous to her children, and was active in supporting charities.Lois is survived by her brother, Dr. John D. Goss Jr.; four children, David, John, Paula and James; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling the arrangements (
