Margaret Therese Maier Sloan, born December 28, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to Robert and Margaret Sloan, passed away July 27, 2026 due to age related natural causes. Margaret attended parochial elementary and high schools in Chicago, IL, earned her RN certification post high school and pursued a career in nursing. During her career, she worked at Albany General Hospital, Linn Care Center, and private physicians in Albany.

As a devoted mother and loyal friend to many, Margaret enjoyed family-oriented activities and celebrations, fine art, choral hymns and classical music. She loved tending to her flowers and plants, and she and husband Dick enjoyed fishing the Alsea River from their special and scenic river front residence in Little Albany.

Margaret’s lifelong Catholic faith was very important to her. She was an active member of the parish at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Albany, Oregon since 1962.,

Preceding Margaret in death were her parents and beloved husband Richard “Dick” Maier, stepson Rod Maier and brothers Robert and Edward Sloan. Margaret is survived by her children: Tom (Christine) Rothengass, Vancouver WA; Tim Rothengass, Castro Valley, CA; Tony (Rhonda Looney) Rothengass, Olympia, WA; Mary Beth Melero Rothengass, Millersburg, OR; Rob (Shannon) Rothengass, Salem, OR. Stepchildren: Allan (Debbie) Maier, Kennewick, WA; Laura (Tony) Nova Maier, Albany, OR. Brother: Francis (Mary) Sloan, Watertown, MN. Sisters: Mary Rita Spooner, Manhattan, KS; Kathy (Peter) Davey, Ft. Collins, CO. Sister-in-law: Joan Sloan, Sparks Nevada. Grandchildren: Demi, Drew, Sloan, Seth and Madeline. Step Grandchildren: Christina, Tiffany, Kari, Jessica, Nick, Kendra and Ashley. Margaret is also survived by 12 Great Grandchildren.
