Margery BrashMay 25, 1922 - December 8, 2008Margery Brash, 86 of Albany passed away Monday at Samaritan Albany General Hospital.She was born in Newberg, the daughter of Daniel and Emma (Gohl) Wohlgemuth. She was raised in Newberg and graduated from Newberg High School and then attended George Fox University and graduated with a degree in Physical Education in 1944. Margery taught school in Grants Pass from 1944 until 1947 when she married Donald W. Brash on June 15, 1947, in Newberg. Don and Margery moved to Toledo where Don taught until 1955 when they came to Albany. Margery was a homemaker and a substitute teacher for many years and earned her masters degree from Oregon State University in health education. As a young woman, Margery enjoyed Archery and won a championship with a bow her father made during her time in Grants Pass. She also enjoyed her painting classes at the Lakeside Center at the Mennonite Village, painting, wild flowers, wild flower photography and playing pinochle; she gained a great deal of knowledge on wild flowers and gave guided tours on Iron Mountain.Margery was a member of the Cherry Court 19 Order of the Amaranth, Good Sam Club Ready Roamers Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi since the 1950s, a long time member of the 20th Century Book Club, and a very active member of Albany First Christian Church.She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Don Brash of Albany; sons Michael Brash of Lebanon and Gregg Brash of Milwaukie; granddaughters Ellen Russel of Beaverton and Jessica Brash of Portland; and sisters Rosalie Gano and Idella Gaibler, both of Newberg. Margery was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Delmar Wohlgemuth. A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Albany First Christian Church with Pastor Patricia Evans officiating. A private family burial will be at Valley View Memorial Park in Newberg.
