Obituary

Marta Karlee Tinney
Oct. 14, 1935 - Jan. 21, 2016
Karlee Tinney passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, in her room at Timberview Care Center in Albany after a long battle with Dermatomyositis Auto Immune Disease.
She was born in Seattle, Washington, to Arnold Karl Johnson and Naomi Johnson. She grew up in Seattle and San Francisco, California, where her father had advertising agencies. The family moved to Grants Pass when Karlee was 15. Karlee graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1953. She married Joe Tinney in August of the same year. They divorced in 1975.
She spent 25 years in the newspaper advertising business and retired as Advertising Director of the Lebanon Express in 1988 following a serious accident and long recovery. She operated Inevitable Solutions, a desktop publishing business, out of her home.
After the retirement, she worked for Grey's Home Furnishings, A-Z Appliance and Furniture, and then for CUB Printing as a graphic designer. For a brief time, she worked as a quality control tester for Hewlett-Packard.
Karlee served two years on the Tangent Planning Commission. She was a SMART volunteer, was on the Albany Planning Commission and the Architectural Advisory Board, the LBCC Graphic Art Advisory Board, and Chairman of Juddson II, the Condominium Association where she lived for 26 years. She is a member of St Albany Episcopal Church.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, and interior decorating, as well as working and graphic designing on the Macintosh computer. She also enjoyed a book and social club she organized that met once a month. The six women who participated in this group have become lifelong friends.
Karlee is survived by her children, Laura Lee Tinney of Gresham, Karl Eric Tinney of Canyonville, and Melinda Jo Tinney of Monterey, California; three grandchildren; and sister Karen Swanson and husband Keith of Salem.
A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 5, 2016, at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home, 805 Ellsworth St. S.W., in Albany.
Donations would be welcome at SafeHaven Animal Shelter in lieu of flowers.
AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling arrangements (aasum-dufour.com).
