Marvin Oakley Nichols, 88, passed away Wednesday morning. He was born in Chillicothe, Missouri, the son of Lincoln and Alice (Dillamon) Nichols, and grew up there. He joined and served in the Navy during World War II, and then joined the Army and served another four years.
The marriage to the love of his life, Betsy, in 1945 lasted for 66 years until her death in early 2012. He is survived by their children: Marvin and Carol Nichols, Mary and Dennis Joyce, Paul Nichols, Cynthia and Eric Purkey, Patrick Nichols, and William Nichols; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother.
Marvin was involved in volunteering with the Boy Scouts while living in California, with the St. Mary's Soup Kitchen in Albany, and also with the Albany Carousel. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and photography, but mostly loved spending time with all his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 17, at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albany.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to St Mary's Soup Kitchen or Samaritan Evergreen Hospice.
