Mary LaVonne Lederman, 72, passed away Monday, March 17, at Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House.
She was born to Roland and Marie (Stutzman) Schweitzer in Wellman, Iowa. At age 2, the family moved to Albany. Mary attended Crabtree Elementary School and Western Mennonite High School.
In 1960, she moved to Sturgis, Mich., where she met and married Paul Lederman. She led a very busy and active life, working their farm and raising her daughter Cheri. She enjoyed gardening, decorating her home, quilting and being a mother. She was very active in her church, playing piano and ministering.
After her divorce, she returned to Albany and enjoyed parents, family and friends.
She worked as a CNA at the Mennonite Nursing Home and Quail Run assisted living. She enjoyed car-ing for her patients and they loved her. Due to illness, she had to give up her job.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Cheri Bouterse and husband Jeff; sister Myrna Roth and husband Larry; brother Jim Schweitzer and wife Carol; sister Ramona Headings and husband Dan; many nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and -nephews and great-great-nieces and -nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, March 24, at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home.
