Mary Louise (Christison) McCorkle, 87, of Albany passed away Wednesday, June 6 at her home.
Mary Lou was born on September 23, 1930 in Longview, Washington. She graduated from R.A. Long High School in Longview, was a life-long reader and always stayed up-to-date on current events. Some referred to her as a "news junkie."
Mary Lou met the love of her life, Jean McCorkle, in 1946 and they were married August 16, 1947. They started their family soon thereafter, and Mary Lou dedicated her life to raising their six children. She was an active and dedicated member of the Albany First Christian Church for close to 60 years.
Mary Lou served as an active member of school PTA, was a Cub Scout Den Mother and school volunteer. She was a FISH of Albany board member for many years and a Reach Out and Read school volunteer, teaching numerous children to read.
Mary Lou is survived by sons Daniel, David and Dennis McCorkle; daughters Diana Patt, Debra Reimers, and Dixie Hill; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and brothers Roy and George Christison of Longview, WA. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband Jean McCorkle; parents Andrew and Hannah Christison; and sister Marlene Coulter.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 15 at Twin Oaks Memorial Park, 34275 Riverside Drive SW, Albany. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 16 at First Christian Church, 432 Ferry St. SW, in Albany.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Mary Lou's honor to the Albany First Christian Church and FISH of Albany.
