Maurine Stewart WallaceSeptember 6, 1908 - August 7, 2008Maurine Wallace, 99, of Albany, passed away Thursday at the Mennonite Home.She was born in Logan, Kan., the daughter of William Henry and Estelle (Dwelly) Stewart.  The second child of nine, Maurine went to a counrty grade school and graduated from Hill City Kansas High School in 1926.  She taught in a country grade school in Kansas for five years and for eight more when they moved to Hiwassee, Ark. She married Everette E. Wallace on Dec. 21, 1928 and they had one child, Norma L., born Oct. 10, 1930.  They moved to a farm near Hiwassee in April of 1933 and then to Albany in 1942.  Maurine was the mail order Manager for Montgomery Ward in Albany for 15 years.  Maurine and her daughter owned and operated a beauty shop in Albany together for 13 years then when Norma's husband was transfered to Coos Bay North Bend, Maurine ran the shop for 17 more years.  She was a charter member of the South Albany Community Church and served as Sunday school superintendent, a teacher, the building board, missions committee, and whereever else she was needed.  After retiring, Maurine volunteered as a dispatcher for Dial-A-Ride at the Senior Center and with AARP.She is survived by daughter Norma Edwards of Cottage Grove; brother J.R. Stewart of LaJunta, CO.; grandchildren Terry, Steven, Janie, and Linda; great-grandchildren Amy, Jennifer, Joshua, and Kayla; and nine nieces and nephews.A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home.  Private inurnment will be at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens.  AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling Arragements.  ( www.aasum-dufour.com )
