Obituary
Max Edgar Copsey, 91, of Albany passed away Wednesday morning at the Mennonite Home he was a kind and gentle man loved by everyone who knew him..
He was born in Sargent, Neb., the son of Milton F. and Anna S. (Amos) Copsey. He was raised in Westerville and attended schools there.
Max moved to Albany in 1940 and worked for Simpson Plywood. He married Ellen Moore on Jan. 19, 1941, and in 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in New Guinea, the southern Philippines and Luzon. He was discharged from Fort Logan, Colo., in 1945. Max returned to Simpson Plywood until April of 1946 when he started working for the U.S. Postal service as a letter carrier.
Ellen preceded him in death in April of 1957 and Max joined the church after her passing for their children to continue to be raised Catholic in her honor. He married Rosalie Wicks on Jan. 1, 1958, in Eugene; they lived in Albany. He retired in August 1978. Rosalie preceded him in death in May of 2004.
He enjoyed traveling, fishing, golfing and volunteering for various organizations and was a loving grandpa who enjoyed attending his grandkids sporting events; especially basketball. He also enjoyed watching the Trailblazers and Oregon and Oregon State football. Max also found great joy in having his great grandkids around him. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Elks Lodge, American Legion Post 10 and the NALC.
He is survived by son Richard L. Copsey and wife Kathie of Tualatin; stepson Ray Wicks of Kona, Hawaii; daughters Sharon Miller and husband Richard of Springfield, Barbara Russell and friend James Harris of Portland, and Mary Fauth and husband Tom of Albany; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and his very loving and dear friend Maude Patch.
Max was preceded in death by three brothers, Alfred, Woodrow and John; and three sisters, Helen Datus, Mildred Guerney and Virginia Hyatt.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with a reception following. A cryptside service with military honors will follow at 2 p.m. at Willamette Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Albany Boys and Girls Club, St. Mary's School or the Mennonite Village Foundation.
