Michael Joseph Posch

Michael Joseph Posch, a longtime resident of Jefferson, died Sunday at his home.
Mike was born in Bowlus, Minn., where he grew up on the family farm. He moved to Oregon in 1948, where he began his career in mink ranching. He also met the love of his life, Mary Joan, and they were married on April 8, 1953. He ranched in Jefferson from 1964 until a few years ago when his health declined.
He is survived by wife Mary "Joan" Posch; daughter Elaine Parrott and husband Joe of Salem; sons Joe Posch and wife Louise, Mike Posch and wife Lori, Dan Posch and wife Cindy of Jefferson, and Jim Posch and wife Angie of Stoughton, Wis. Mike cherished his family including his 20 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sister Margaret Kroll of Portland. Brothers Roman, Johnny, George and Louis, and sisters Rose, Sarah and Rita preceded him in death.
Mike proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War as a corporal. He was a member of the American Legion of Lebanon and life member of the VFW Jefferson Post.
Mike was a very religious man. He was a longtime member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Jefferson and most recently St. Mary's Catholic Church of Albany.
Mike loved the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, bird watching, playing cards and watching pro-wrestling. He also loved listening to polka music. He was proud of his Polish heritage and enjoyed speaking the language with other family members and partaking in the ethnic food. He also looked forward to when family members visited Oregon from Minnesota.
Donations may be made on his behalf to the Mennonite Home or Samaritan Evergreen Hospice in care of AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home in Albany.
A rosary prayer service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, followed by a memorial Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albany. Internment will be at a later date in the Jefferson Pioneer Cemetery.
