Michael Philip "Phil" Weis
Feb. 3, 1924 - Feb. 17, 2016
Michael Philip Weis Sr. of Tangent passed away at the age of 92 on Feb. 17, 2016, at home.
Phil was born to Grace and Fred Weis at the Mulberry Creek Farm in Kansas on Feb 3, 1924. Phil spent most of his younger years on farms in Kansas and moved with his family to Oregon in 1936.
Phil enlisted in the US Army in 1943. He served thru out the United States and spent 14 months overseas in India. He served as an aircraft welder and a military police officer as well as many other duties during his military career. Phil completed his tour and arrived back home on Easter Sunday in 1946. Upon returning home Phil was employed as an electrician with Kerns Electric and as a mechanic with Herrold & Jensen's. Phil was a jack of all trades so after leaving Herrold and Jensen's he also worked on numerous farms, in saw mills, as a log truck driver and even a fire fighter before returning back to Herrold & Jensen's where he retired from in 1986.
Phil married Dorothy Lucile Johnson on November 11, 1950 at the Dever-Conner Church in Dever Conner. Together they had 10 children who were all raised in Oregon. They were a close family that cherished spending time together. They enjoyed the outdoors and were avid campers who loved playing cards and board games. Dorothy passed away in 1987 after almost 37 years of marriage.
In 1989 Phil moved to the Oregon coast where he met and married lrva Loraine Ropp in 1992.
lrva and Phil enjoyed traveling together in their 5th wheel. Most travels took them to family around the United States.
Phil loved his camera and took pictures at every event. He was talented in crafting and enjoyed making greeting cards and refrigerator magnets and often used his photography in them. Phil loved his family and enjoyed the time they shared. He was a man of his word and a good friend with many lifelong relationships. He loved classical, country and gospel music and was a great dancer. He was a member of the Eagles and an avid CBer.
Phil lived the last of his years in Tangent with his daughter, Debra, and her, husband Danny Kimmel.
Phil is survived by nine children, Diane, Carolyn, Jerry, Larry, Beth, Thomas, Debra, Judy and Scott; five stepchildren, Gene, Merv, Vilace, Mavis and Larry; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Phil was preceded in death by his son, Michael Philip Weis Jr.
A service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at Dever-Conner Church. There will be a potluck gathering following the service. Please feel free to bring any potluck style dish.
