Milton Clifton Plagmann, 97, of Albany passed away on Tuesday at the Mennonite Home.
Clifton was born in Albany to Walter and Ruth (Briggs) Plagmann. He grew up in Albany and moved to the family farm when he was 3. He graduated from Albany Union High School in 1935 where he ran track. Clifton married Virginia Irene Kelly on Sunday, Sept. 22, 1940, in Crabtree. They stayed on the family farm and dairy and Clifton drove milk trucks during World War II. They slowly shifted the farm from cattle/dairy to a seed farm in the early 1950s.
Clifton raced hydro planes from 1950 until 1962 and raced at the World Fair in Seattle, Wash., in 1962. Clifton was an avid bowler until he was 90 years old, was past grand master of the Jefferson Masonic Lodge, enjoyed salmon fishing in his boat at the coast, and loved going to Burgerville.
Clifton is survived by daughter Mikell 'Cooky' Plagmann of Hillsboro; son Terry and wife Connie Plagmann of Albany; granddaughters Toni Gile of Portland, Traci and husband Roger Anderson of Turner, and Teri Durham of Clackamas; great-grandchildren Jaylen and Wynter Durham of Clackamas and Alex Anderson of Turner; brother Lawrence Plagmann of Albany; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and loving wife Virginia.
A visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the funeral home with a reception to follow at the family farm. Private entombment was held at Willamette Memorial Park Mausoleum.
