Nora Anne HowtonDecember 14, 1927 - December 25, 2008Nora Anne Howton, 81, of Albany passed away Thursday at her home.She was born in Bloomington, Ind., the daughter of Arthur L. and Margaret G. (Dalton) Coffey. Nora was raised in Phoenix, Ariz., and married Samuel Leo Howton there on Aug. 17, 1946. Leo's career with J.C. Penny led them to Arkansas, Portland in 1951, and finally to Santa Cruz, Calif., for 18 years until his retirement in 1986, when they moved to Albany.Nora was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed bingo, gardening, crossword puzzles, and playing the organ.She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Leo Howton of Albany; daughters Margaret Zimmerman of Salem and Nancy Howton of Aumsville; sons Steven Howton of Salem, Dan Howton of Keizer, and Tim Howton of Santa Cruz; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters Mary Miller of Albany and Jeanne Cook of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and brothers Art Coffey of Albany, Tom Coffey of Stayton and Ernie Coffey of Toledo, Wash. Nora was preceded in death by a sister Lois Castle.A funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Willamette Memorial Park.
