Norman Hagner, 77 of Albany, went as he lived, quietly and peacefully, into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 5, 2018.

Norman was born during turbulent times, five hours before the New Year, on December 31, 1940.  He was born to Amos O. and Ina May (Wilder) Hagner.  He attended grade and middle schools in the Salem area and graduated from North Salem High School in 1959.

He attended Bethany Bible College in Santa Cruz, CA. where he met his wife of 54 years, Bernice Enzi Hagner.  They were married in Lodi, CA on January 11, 1964.  To this marriage were born four children.

Norman worked for several builders before branching out on his own.  He built and worked on many homes in the Albany area.  He took great pride in his work and everything had to be plumb and straight; crooked walls and floors were completely unacceptable.  During one of the recession times, he spent three years in California restoring a beautiful home built in 1919.  While there he built cabinets and wood windows on the job site.

He returned to Oregon and worked for Paul Brawn Builder as a finish carpenter.  When Paul retired, Norman started to build cabinets and furniture from his home shop.  He did this for at least 20 years.

Norman had a 42 year journey with diabetes which plagued his entire family: grandparents, both parents, all five siblings and two daughters. When his health began to fail, he retired in 2011.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, sister Paulette and brother Earl just this year on April 26.

He is survived by two brothers; Larry and Andrew Mark; his wife Bernice; children Dawn Michelle (Cebo) Fender, Melody Joy (Jim) Zier, Joel Timothy (Heather) Hagner, Juliene Annette (Rodney) Lambert; grandchildren Jonathan, Sharell (Clayton), Victoria, Jared, Cody, Rachelle, Raelyn, and Emma and many nieces and nephews.

Norman was a Member of Albany First Assembly of God (now Hope Church) for over 50 years.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 15, at 1:00 P.M. at Hope Church with a private family burial at Willamette Memorial Park in Albany.
