Orval 'Vern' Gleason

Vern Gleason, 84, of Lebanon, formerly Tangent, passed away Wednesday at the Lebanon Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Ontario, Calif., the son of Harold R. and Minnie B. (Knight) Gleason. After high school Vern enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a draftsman from Nov. 16, 1945 to Nov. 2, 1948. He married Peggy Marie Tontz in San Diego, Calif., on Nov. 27, 1948, she preceded him in death in 1992. Vern married Nelda H. Terry in Monmouth on Aug. 14, 1993. Vern worked as a mechanic for Fisher Implement and he enjoyed woodworking, carving, gardening and bird watching. He was a long time member of Albany First Evangelical Church.
Vern is survived by his wife, Nelda H. Gleason of Albany; daughters Linda McClanahan and Sharon Schrader, both of Albany, and Sandra Hart of St. Helens; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son Richard; and brothers Calvin and Alvin.
A visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at the funeral home. A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Albany First Evangelical with Pastor Dan Desaulnier officiating. Private burial will be at Knox Butte Cemetery.
