Paul Willard
Overlin
June 5, 2026
Paul W. Overlin passed on peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior, at his home, the Oregon Veteran’s Home in Lebanon, Oregon on Friday June 5, 2026. He was 84 years old.
Paul was born in Eugene, Oregon, the second of fifteen children. In early childhood, the Overlin family moved to Buffalo Gap, South Dakota. He lived there until High School graduation. He then decided to move to Iowa to attend Bible College. It was there he met his future wife, Becky. It was a fitting beginning to their more than 60 years of walking through life together! He left college early and joined the Navy. They soon married and he was stationed in Oahu, Hawaii, where they lived during his five years of service.
After his discharge from the Navy, they returned to Iowa where they made a life and adopted a son, Jeff. Paul mostly worked as a handyman and in maintenance positions. While living in Iowa, there were large family get togethers at his uncle’s farm in Mitchellville. They always included lots of family, friends, food, long games of horse shoes, pool, and Uncle Gilbert’s homemade wine!
They lived in Iowa for 30 years before returning to Oregon to be closer to family, allowing them to resume the tradition of Overlin family get togethers. Forty people in one house for Christmas, summer parties at his sister’s house, cribbage matches, laughter, and love. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed gardening, but his real love was family and friends. He could talk for hours and listen for just as long. He loved Jesus and was active in his church until he was physically unable.
Paul was one of the most kind-hearted, loving, strong men most of us have ever met. He loved spoiling his family with ice cream or making homemade cheesecake just because he could. He enjoyed playing board games, especially Scrabble and puzzles. He was famous for taking naps, since he could not sit in a comfortable recliner and not fall asleep. When he wasn’t napping, he loved making everyone smile. He always told silly jokes and took out his dentures because we all got a hoot out of it. Making people laugh was a trait we all adored about him.
As we continue to share our memories and stories, the people we have held close in life continue to live on after death. One day all of us who are in Jesus Christ will be raised. Our hope, as I know was his, is to see all of the family and friends he knew here, at the resurrection and have one eternal family reunion. What a glorious shindig that will be. Save us a place at the supper table!
Paul is survived by his wife, son, grandchildren, 12 siblings, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. There will be a celebration of life for family and friends to share memories and reminisce together. The family asks that no flowers or donations be sent.
