Preston H. HessSept. 30, 1932 - Aug. 2, 2009Preston H. Hess, 76, of Albany passed away Sunday at his home.He was born in Panther, W. Va., to John and Virgie Hess.  He resided in Hayside, Va., until he was 17 years old.  He joined th United States Army and spent 20 years in service.  He retired as a 1st Sergeant.  After the military he worked in construction in the southern United States and Oregon for 20 years.  Then he worked for the City of Albany for 20 years and retired in 2008 at the age of 76.He married Sara Nell and they had four children.  On Feb. 4, 1972 he married Genevieve M. Hess.Preston is survived by wife, Genevieve; children Danny, Michael, Kim and Gary Hess; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; stepchildren JoMell Fritz, Robert Aarnes and Tina Lauder;  10 stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and siblings Bill Hess, Grace Lambert, Katie M. Craig and Pearl Justice.He was preceded in death by brothers Arthur and John; and one grandson.A viewing will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Wednesday at the funeral home.  Funeral service will be at 2 p.m.  Friday at the Willamette Memorial Park Mausoleum.  AAsum-Dufour Funeral  Home is handing the arrangements ( www.aasum-dufour.com ).
