Ralph S. TurnerSeptember 15, 1922 - July 19, 2007Ralph S. Turner, 84 of Tangent, passed away of congestive heart failure, Thursday, July 19, 2007 at his home. He was born September 15, 1922 in Roosevelt, Minnesota the son of Charles Ross and Gertrude Alice (Jordan) Turner. Ralph grew up in the area, played hockey and graduated from high school in nearby Williams, Minnesota. On June 24, 1944 Ralph married Elsie B. Isaac in Roosevelt, Minn. They lived in Roosevelt for a short time then moved to St. Paul where they both worked in a defense plant during World War II. After the war, Ralph and Elsie moved back to Roosevelt where he hauled pulp wood in the winter and worked road construction during the summer for his uncles, Wesley and Leonard Turner. In 1948, Ralph and Elsie moved to Albany, Oregon, where, for the next 20 years, he worked for Steen Brothers as a meat cutter. In 1967 he became an Instructor in the Animal Science Dept. at Oregon State University and retired in 1977. In 1979 Ralph and Elsie began wintering at Bashford's Spa and very much enjoyed their annual trips to that community. An avid outdoorsman, Ralph enjoyed big game hunting in Oregon, Alaska and Canada using both a bow and rifle as well as fishing and clamming. He was also a past member of the Albany Elks Lodge.Ralph is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elsie Turner of Tangent, one sister, Edna Hegstad of Warroad, Minn. and many nieces and nephews. Ralph was preceded in death by his brother Clyde Turner.Visitation will be held Monday, July 23, from 1:00 to 7:00 P.M. at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 24, at 11:00 A.M. also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of the donor's choice and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
